The Reasons to Start a Podcast

You see podcasts everywhere. Joe Rogan. Murder Mysteries. Someone sharing their interest in Hello Kitty. They exist, but why? What is the reason people take the time to record and edit, what is the reason people spend the money getting this equipment. Well, there are many reasons and different people do it for different reasons. This is a list of some of the reasons you should start a podcast. Maybe you'll find a reason for you to have one!

Fun

Heck ya, you can absolutely start a podcast for the fun of it. Nothing attached. If you are passionate about something, you can start a podcast just for the sake of having somewhere to vent your thoughts, and people to talk to. This fun can be in the form of simply venting, starting a fun community about a topic, or whatever.

Money

Through podcasting, with enough viewers and the right sponsors, you can make some great money through podcasting! Finding a topic that has enough people interested willing to spend 15-30-60 minutes listening to you could bring in some extra money for you. It could be an extension of a business you currently run, for example Disney could run a podcast and earn additional money through a podcast, or you could earn money through a podcast over a popular topic you know things about. Finding sponsors is a great way to earn money through podcasting.

Audience

As a business owner, having a podcast is a great way to grow your current audience and even find a new one. Currently there are 16 million avid podcast fans, that's a lot of potential listeners. Starting a podcast through your business over something interesting related to your field could 1.) provide value to these people, but more importantly 2.) remember you and attach your brand to whatever they are learning. Very powerful!

Learn

Starting a podcast doesn't have to be about financial or business gain, but it can also be for you. For you to learn and grow yourself. It is one thing to read a book or watch videos, but when you put yourself in a position where you have to RELAY the information that you just learned, it forces you to reinforce and actually understand everything. You can't passively watch or read, you actually have to understand the topic in order to relay it in podcast form!

Educating

On the other side of that coin, you can educate others. If there is something you understand that you believe you really can help others with, a podcast is a great way to relay this education. Starting a podcast you could reach thousands, tens of thousands, or even millions of people and teach them about what you know about.

overall

The best part is, it doesn't have to be just one reason. You could start a podcast to learn for yourself, all the while growing an audience for your business and earning more money. And there are many, many more reasons than those stated in this blog to start a podcast. These just happen to be the most popular reasons podcasters do so. There are many benefits for podcasting, so if you find unique reason, I highly recommend you to do it. There is no downside to podcasting besides the money you may possibly put in the equipment. It is fun, and has many upsides!
