I Created an Organized System for Podcasting

Planning on creating a podcast? Heck. Ya. You are in for a load of fun. However, you are also in for a load of work. There are many things that come with a podcast, even more than the system I am about to provide for you! That being said, I created a system for idea generating, inviting guest, planning the podcast, recording, editing, posting and advertising. Basically EVERYTHING dealing with the podcast itself. There are many other things outside of the podcast system that I do for my brand, Gamification Station, like repurposing the content into TikTok posts, Facebook posts, and blogs, however you can't begin thinking about that stuff without an actual podcast! So, here's the system!:

Schedule

First Monday of every month: Brainstorming Topics

Every Monday Morning: Research

Every Tuesday Morning: Research

Every Wednesday Morning: Research

Every Thursday: Record Podcast, advertise Saturdays publish

Every Friday: Edit Podcast

Every Saturday: Publish and advertise podcast

Idea Generation and Scheduling

The First Monday of Every Month:

  1. Brainstorm and write down all possible topics related to gamification

  2. Research other podcasts covering gamification and discover which ones do well

  3. Research any breaking news regarding gamification

    1. Should be scheduled in ASAP

  4. Research any companies recently applying gamification

    1. Should be scheduled in ASAP

  5. Schedule a topic for that month's Thursday recording

  6. If an episode requires a guest, do not schedule that guest within two weeks. Give that guest two weeks to figure out their schedule

    1. It is okay to continue the podcast without the guest

Every Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday morning:

  1. Research any breaking news regarding gamification

  2. Research any companies recently applying gamification to their businesses

  3. If so, push back the week's topic schedule and place any of this news to the nearest recording session.

  4. If a guest requires a guest, do not schedule that guest within two weeks. Give that guest two weeks to figure out their schedule

    1. It is okay to continue the podcast without the guest

Inviting Guests

  1. Again, give the guest two weeks notice for a podcast invite

  2. Sample emails will be created for emailing guests

  3. When communicating, let them know that they can do the podcast over Zencastr. They will receive an email with the link to the podcast before the recording.

  4. If the guest says yes, thank the guest!

  5. If the guest says no, let them know you understand and hope for one in the future

Recording the Podcast

On Thursday:

  1. Turn on the Ring light

  2. Make sure the camera is on and working well

  3. Make sure there are no shadows and the visual looks good

  4. Open Zencastr, connect the correct mic and camera

  5. Check the topic, if there are guests, invite the email attached to the guests name to the podcast

  6. Test the guests mic and camera quality

  7. When both host and guest are ready to start, click begin recording

    1. No need to stop recording if anything goes wrong, editing will fix mistakes

  8. When the time is up (Maximum 30 minutes, these are meant to be short bursts of info), click finish recording

  9. Download the file immediately after, saved as the episode number followed by RAW

Editing the Podcast

On Friday:

  1. Open Adobe Premiere Pro

  2. Add the intro to the podcast, followed by the recorded podcast

  3. Listeners appreciate imperfection, do not trim out “ums” or pauses.

  4. Edit where the viewers should be focused. If one person is talking, zoom in on them. If they should see the person talking and the others reaction, zoom out to both. If the listener's reaction is important, zoom in on them. Zoom in to where there is interest. This constant cutting will keep the viewers engaged.

  5. Add sound effects, visual effects, and music sparingly but effectively for comedy or to promote an emotion

  6. Watch through the podcasts catching any mistakes

  7. Export the project as H.264 file type, making sure to save in the “Gamification Station” Folder titled with the episode number

Publishing the Podcast

On Saturday Morning:

  1. Open Anchor

  2. Create new episode

  3. Drag the episode recently edited into the board

  4. Click save episode

  5. Title the podcast with the topic name and the episode number

  6. Create a description using keywords to rank higher in SEO

  7. Set it to launch at noon

  8. Set the season number, episode number, episode type to full, and all podcasts are clean so click clean

Advertising the Podcast

On Thursday:

  1. Take some funny, or informational bits to create a quick ad to hype up the release

  2. Post on facebook and tiktok

    1. Create descriptions including when and where they can find the podcast, as well as a link to the podcast

On Saturday:

  1. Again, take some funny or informational bits to create a quick ad encouraging viewers to listen to the podcast

  2. Post on facebook and tiktok

    1. Create descriptions including when and where they can find the podcast, as well as a link to the podcast
