Family/Friends Fun Activity: Rocket League

Car soccer. Oh yes.

I would like to start this off by saying, if you are new to video games - you WILL suck but you WILL get better. If you have played video games before, you too will still probably suck, but will get better.

This game is great because it is a LONG TERM activity you can play with your friends and family. I personally have been playing this weekly, if not multiple times a week, since 2017. This game is amazing because you are ALWAYS getting better as well as your friends and family, and as you get better the game play is different. It is so fun to grow with the people you play with as well.

What is this "car soccer"?

Rocket League is game where you control a car in third person. You can accelerate, reverse, turn your car, and drift like a normal car; what makes this game awesome is you can make your car jump, rotate in mid air, demolish and explode other players, and use boost which can either speed your car up on the ground, or if boosting the right way in the air... you're soaring, you're flying.

Now with these mechanics you have one simple goal: put the big giant ball in the big giant net. What makes this game endlessly playable is it is actually just like a sport. You will always be getting better. It's not like Call of Duty where if you can aim, you win. No, this game has so many mechanics, uses physics, strategy, it is impossible to be naturally great at this game. It requires work and time to get good.

Why is this good for friends/family?

Because of exactly what I just stated. You are constantly growing, and getting better. Just like being in a sport with friends, growing along side your friends is amazing. Seeing where you came from and where you are now is a great story.

Not only that, but the game is fun in itself. Putting on the headset or playing on the TV, showing off impressive moves OR yelling at your brother for knocking your car out of mid air before the coolest goal on the planet, you'll be having a blast.

Tournaments

This is what has me and my friends on weekly. The tournaments. We are, well, not THAT good at the game. But the game does a great job of placing you in a rank with other people who are roughly as bad as you.

Every day at 7:00 and 11:00 pm CST, tournaments take place on Rocket League. This is where you show off your skills. It is a 3v3 tournament, so get two friends and hop on. This tournament is great for having fun with your friends, and communicating while waiting for the next game to load.

Overall

This is an amazing hobby that can be long term fun for your friends and family. It is not a band-aid of fun, providing temporary fun for ONE time like a lot of board games. This is a game that you can play for a very very long time. One of the best kinds of fun you can have.
