I said it.
Disney AND Universal both have their charms, and I love one more than the other for different reasons. They both rock, for different things. They compliment each other very well, what one park is, the other is another thing. This post though will highlight the features that make Universal stand out compared to Disney.
Action
This is pretty obvious, and is the reason teens gravitate to Universal rather than Disney. Universal has a lot more action coasters, and they're serious business. The rides are thrilling, and scary. If you love thrill, this park is made for you. Disney's rides are more themed, and happy, while Universal really capitalizes on evoking the thrill emotion.
Theme
Universal has been knocking their roller coaster theming out of the park. Not only are their rides exciting and exhilarating, but they're themed to make you feel like you are somewhere else. Hagrids ride really immerses you, making you feel like you are riding a magic flying motorcycle. Spider man and the Mummy nearly trigger every single one of your senses making you feel as if you really are falling through Aquaman down a 100 story tall building.
And it's not just the rides. Since Harry Potter's expansion to their park, their new approach to their park is applying entire worlds to their park. Instead of a single ride per intellectual property, like Disney for the most part does, Universal has plans to create many different worlds and theme it like you are actually there. Harry Potter did this first, making you feel you are ACTUALLY there. They did this with their new park, Nintendo park. You feel as if you are IN a Mario game, and they plan to do this with multiple more intellectual properties.
Food
Need I say more than this one word?
Butterbeer.
This drink single-handedly takes the crown for the best beverage I have ever had at a theme park or, dare I say, anywhere. This is actually non-alcoholic so anyone of any age can enjoy this fantastic beverage. Besides for butterbeer, Universals theming of their food is awesome. Their food matches the area you are in, like in Dr. Suess you can eat green eggs and ham. Or at the Nintendo park, they make calzone in the shape of a mushroom. Not only do they theme the food well, but it tastes phenomenal as well.
Overall
Universal is a place for the older, for the thrill-seekers, and for those looking for "cool." The vibe at Universal isn't "happy" like at Disney, it is awesome. Walking through the park you feel wowed. Your tastebuds will be satisfied, you'll be awestruck from the rides, and the experiences the rest of the rides give will leave a lasting memory for sure.
