What is Pirates of the Caribbean?
Pirates of the Caribbean is an adventure with wonderful character, wonderful plots, hilarious moments, many scary moments, but also moments that are hard to follow. The franchise follows the Captain, Jack Sparrow. The entire franchise can viewed as one story as a whole, which currently consists of five movies and in the future, a sixth. Captain Jack Sparrow is many different things that people could argue: lucky, a genius. But there is one thing no one would not argue, he is a drunk. And this drunk, half lucky half genius pirate puts on a heck of an adventure.
The Characters
Captain Jack Sparrow is one of my favorite characters to come out of movies, he wittiness and facial expressions make me laugh alone. He constantly keeps you guessing as to what his intentions are, which is an entirely new level of experience for the audience. There are movies where you can sit and watch, and this for sure could be one of those, but the other level of this movie is trying to understand Jack's intentions... Does he even know?
The two main side characters, Elizabeth and William also add a lot to movie, both very likable. They are witty in their own regards and have their own distinguishable characteristics.
The villains absolutely leave a lasting impression. Whether it be through evil intentions, scary back stories, or just look absolutely disgusting. I think Pirates creates some of the best villains.
The Plot
The movies overall are GREAT plots and surely creative. The movies dive into old myths about the ocean which is very cool to experience. The Kraken, Davey Jones, and many other legends they bring to life. You experience these legends through our heroes, Jack, Elizabeth, and William. Constantly throughout the movies, you wonder who's team Jack is on.
I feel the movies are meant to connect into one giant story. You definitely 100% could watch any given movie and enjoy it without watching the others, however by watching them all you get a big giant picture. They flow perfectly movie to movie.
The Vibe
The entire vibe of the movie is just plain cool. The fighting scenes are amazing, and always creative. The idea of these tough pirates navigating through these stories, fighting monsters, facing fears, and playing a lot of politics. The feel is a little darker, and spooky, but with much much comedy. Throughout the movies, you are left guessing. Guessing intentions, guessing what happens next. Hoping for something to happen and hoping another thing doesn't. The franchise does a wonderful job of pulling on your emotional strings.
Overall
Watching this franchise, you will meet a cast of characters you will fall in love with. You will be confused at parts, as you are constantly left in the dark wondering what true intentions are. You can definitely watch these movies without thinking and enjoy them for their face value, but there is another level of the movies where you can try to understand. This is a great movie to watch, and I think should be on everyone's bucket list!
